

the Workshop on “Protection of Consumer Rights: Inclusive Business Practices” and the Celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day 2026 under theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers”
Her Excellency CHAM Nimul, Minister of Commerce, Chairperson of the National Commission for Consumer Protection (NCCP) and the Cambodia Competition Commission (CCC) emphasized that trust between buyers and sellers is essential as Cambodia prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country status. She highlighted that consumer protection and fair competition are not only pillars of sustainable economic growth but also vital in promoting and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups, particularly consumers with disabilities, ensuring they can fully participate in the marketplace with confidence and dignity.
International partners, including the EU and Germany, reaffirmed their support for Cambodia’s reform journey, stressing that consumer protection and trust are vital for sustainable growth in the digital economy.
Mr. Koen Everaert, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Cooperation at the, European Union Delegation, emphasized the importance of consumer protection for both individual safety and the overall trust and functioning of markets. Highlighting this year’s theme, “Safe Products and Confident Consumers,” he noted that consumer trust fosters fair competition, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.
The workshop also reflected the growing cooperation between Cambodia and EuroCham, arising from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on promoting consumer awareness and fair competition. This partnership reinforces Cambodia’s commitment to aligning with international best practices, while ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and the empowerment of consumers with disabilities as equal stakeholders in the economy.
The event was organized with technical support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the co-funding of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). These collaborative efforts focus on strengthening consumer protection frameworks across the ASEAN region, while simultaneously enhancing the global competitiveness of Cambodian exports to European and international markets.
